Silly Geese

Across the country road
the geese stepped out
from one verge
to the other.

Not to scare them I
drove slowly, then stopped
as they stood before me,
staring, their paddle feet
squarely on the road.

Their drover looked at me,
at them, then rolled his
eyes to the sky. Looking
up the road then down
he waved me on around
his feathered goosey charges.

They showed me why
we call a foolish one
a “silly goose”.

  1. I love this poem. I haven’t thought much about those words “silly goose” even though I know them well.
Now after reading your post, I can understand also the meaning of them, I have a mental picture in my mind, that’s what poetry is all about, it creates a picture.
Thanks for sharing, have a nice weekend.
